Meet Edgewood Chiropractor Dr. Dale A. Hansen – Retired 2018

Dr. Acosta has worked diligently to bring together a team of professionally minded people. I feel honored to be a part of that team.

I am often asked, “What made you want to be a Chiropractor?” The answer is simple; Chiropractic adjustments helped me. When I was only two years old I took a hard fall from a porch landing on my head, resulting a series of symptoms that left my family panicked and the family medical doctors at a loss. My father, who had been previously helped with severe migraines, took me to his Chiropractor. Within 20 minutes after that chiropractic adjustment my symptoms that had lasted 48 hours were gone. Over the following years my family enjoyed the benefits of Chiropractic adjustments.

When I was in Jr. High school I became a patient of Dr. Donald Robinson here in Edgewood. He began mentoring me and took the time to answer my questions regarding health and health care vs. disease and disease care. When the time came he helped me with my application to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

When I graduated in 1975, Dr. Robinson was one of the first to congratulate me, continuing to mentor me and show me what the practice of Chiropractic is. Dr. Robinson introduced me to Dr. Ronald Acosta who was stepping up to purchase this clinic. Dr. Acosta had brought Dr. Steve Sanderson in to work with him. I had in fact met Dr. Sanderson back at Palmer College, where we attended the same classes and both graduated in the class of December 1975. When I spoke with Dr. Sanderson about working in this clinic he smiled and simply said, “we have fun here.”

Soon I began to fill in for vacation and seminar absences, then a day a week and it was not long before I decided to leave my private practice in Auburn and move to a full time position as a part of his team at Harmony Health Chiropractic & Massage in Edgewood. Sanderson was right we do have fun here.

It is true that a doctor’s education never seems to end and I am continually looking to improve my understanding and abilities. My graduation from Palmer College of Chiropractic was only the beginning. Within three months of receiving my license to practice Chiropractic in Washington State I attended the first of many intensive training seminars and have not stopped. Over the years I have completed hundreds of hours of study in the care of injuries sustained in Motor Vehicular Collisions. In 1992 I enrolled and completed an extended course of studies as a Chiropractic Sports Physician through the National College of Chiropractic. I then had the pleasure of working with athletes ranging from grade school through the college levels and into the professional levels. There are many effective chiropractic-adjusting techniques and I have added a number of courses of study to the package of techniques taught at Palmer College. Which do I use? The techniques best suited to the patient’s current need.

In my years of practice I have seen many patients for care for a specific injuries: work; auto; sports; home. I have also seen patients who were ready to address the many miles of wear and tear that life had placed on their body. It has always been my pleasure to find patients who are looking to improve their overall balance and strength and general health.

I was born and raised in the Puget Sound area, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in Federal Way. My wife, Penny graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma. We have raised five children who are now out of the house. One who is currently attending the University of Washington, one is in the United States Air Force, two living and working in Seattle and one who is bringing our first grandson for us to visit. We stay very active in our home church, whether raising funds for missionary outreaches and other ministries, or as we are called, traveling locally, nationally and internationally to take part in those ministries. In our spare time (when there is some) we ride our motorcycle, with Dr. Sanderson and/or Dr. Acosta and their wives.

Patients often ask, “Do I receive chiropractic adjustments?” …ABSOLUTELY! Many years ago a wise doctor looked me in the eye and said, “remember Dale, you never get away with nothin’.” Every time I get the chance to work with a patient, old or new, young or “older”, I see again that this is true. With the many miles, physical activity and self inflicted abuses that my body has endured, the doctors in this office work as a team to keep me in line. The result is freer movement and better health!

Whether you are dealing with a new injury, you are feeling the affects of an active life lived, or if you want to see how well your body is adapting to the world around you, I welcome the chance to sit with you and listen to your story.
